If you typically use this popular bridge to get to work, take kids to school, or whatever it may be, you might want to make some new plans to take a different route. The good news is that the closure of this busy Illinois bridge won't last long. The bad news, if you will, is that over the past few months, it feels like this area has been closed more than often but if work needs to be done, it needs to be done.

Officials say that the Rock Island Arsenal Directorate of Public Works will close the Government Bridge to vehicle traffic on Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The reason for the closure of because repair work needs to be done that requires a crane to be placed on the bridge.

The bridge is tight anyway, so having a crane on there will make it really hard to have cars driving on it too. It just makes sense to close the bridge for that short period of time.

Officials say that appropriate signage will be used to warn and direct traffic during all activities. As you know, there are plenty of other ways to get across the Mississippi River even with one of the bridges closed.
