David Letterman Was Bagging Groceries At This Iowa Hy-Vee
A major celebrity was spotted in Iowa...but this time, bagging groceries at Hy-Vee?
David Letterman was seen working a surprise shift bagging groceries at a Hy-Vee in Des Moines in a video that Hy-Vee posted on Monday, July 24th. It's a throwback for Letterman, who used to work at Atlas Supermarket in Indianapolis back in the 60's when he was a teenager. At the Des Moines Hy-Vee, he was put to work bagging groceries, restocking canned goods, and of course telling jokes.
He says in the video:
I spent a considerable amount of my life in a grocery store in Indianapolis. It was the last of the singular, independent owned grocery stores, and I loved it. And if I can give something back to the marketing community, I would like to do that, but I don’t have all day, of course.
He was in Iowa for the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend in Newton, which wrapped up on July 23rd and featured other celebrities, including Carrie Underwood, Zac Brown Band, Ed Sheeran, and Kenny Chesney.
Letterman had skin in the game for the actual race. According to NBC Chicago, Letterman is one of the owners of RLL Racing and is part-owner of the Hy-Vee number 45 racecar.
Here's Hy-Vee's video of David Letterman's shift:
This is not the first time in recent days that a celebrity has been seen working a "normal person" shift. Just a week ago, singer Lana Del Ray was spotted working at an Alabama Waffle House. Stars...they're just like us.
