After some recent experiences in the QC, I think it's a good idea to brush us up on drive-thru etiquette.

Drive-thrus are great inventions. Whether you're lazy, in a hurry, or both, it's an outlet to calm down your hangry self or quiet down your kids in the backseat with some delicious food without having to drag yourself out of the car. It's never really talked about but apparently, it needs to be discussed: drive-thru etiquette is a thing.

1. Pay Attention

This has happened to me several times in Bettendorf lately. You don't have to tailgate the person in front of you, but if it's clearly enough room that another car could pull up to look at the menu or pull up to order, scoot up.

2. Be On The Phone

And to that point, put the phone down. I know it's the drive-thru entertainment while you're waiting but don't let it distract you from what you're actually trying to do. Unless the drive-thru line is really long and you already know what you want, just put it in the cupholder or on the car mount.

3. Don't Take Forever To Order And Speak Clearly

I definitely know that not every drive-thru has state-of-the-art speaker systems. And you may not be familiar with a restaurant so you're unsure of what to get. But don't back up the line taking a long time to order and then have to repeat yourself a dozen times because you're mumbling.

4. Be Prepared To Pay

Cash? Card? However you intend to pay for your stuff, make sure you have it figured out before the window slides open. If you don't, you risk being that person that clogs up the flow rifling through your purse and wallet because you're unprepared.

5. If You're Ordering For A Crowd, Go Inside

I understand your car is comfy, we're playing your favorite song on the radio, you don't want to get out. But if it's your day to get breakfast for the office or food for everyone in the family, go inside to order that.

Those are the biggest drive-thru etiquette rules I've seen broken so far this summer in the QC. What are some I left out? Let us know in the app chat!
