Talk about waking up to a nightmare.

An Iowa City woman is thankfully alive and without injury after her cell phone exploded in her bed. Her mattress and pillow were burned but the situation could have been entirely worse.

Do you sleep next to your cell phone? I have warned my own children about keeping the phone away from their heads as much as possible. Not only are these phones emitting radiation but they are like tiny computers and overheat, especially with pillows and blankets [and your head] on top of them.

According to KWQC.com, Patricia Dampier, wasn't even sleeping with hers.

"When Dampier tried to answer, she noticed something was wrong with her phone because the screen was frozen.

She put the phone down on her bed and says seconds later it exploded and began smoking, damaging her sheets and mattress."

I am really glad she is ok. I am even happier for my decision to have the phones at my house at least 10 feet away from heads and bodies at night. Can't say my kids always agree but this is one instance where 'Mom knows best.'
