Ready to set stuff on fire?

Nothing says 'Happy Birthday America' quite like being drunk on the lake and setting off fireworks. We always say not to let the kids play with fireworks when the adults are the ones to point them at each other.

Now, a new bill before the Iowa Legislature would remove some fireworks laws for America's 250th birthday. Which is next year.

According to KCCI, the bill has passed both the Iowa House and Senate and is now headed to Governor Kim Reynolds' desk.

It limits a local government's ability to restrict fireworks use to just July 3rd & 4th and December 31st. It's meant to coincide with a big celebration for next year, to allow extra parties for America's 250th birthday.

Which could lead to more iconic 4th of July moments like this:

President Trump has declared that a yearlong birthday party will begin at the Iowa State Fair this Memorial Day and go through July 4th, 2026, in an event dubbed the "Great American State Fair".

Fireworks In Iowa State Law

Currently, Iowa state law allows fireworks from June 1st-July 8th and December 10th-January 3rd.

As we know, municipalities have their own restrictions on fireworks. For Davenport, consumer fireworks can only be used July 3rd & 4th from 5:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. and on December 31st from 10:00 p.m.-12:30 a.m.

Will you get to set off a college fund's worth of fireworks this year? Who knows? But you may need to prepare for 4th of July 2026. The measure, if signed into law, would remove local fireworks ordinances that ban fireworks, including Iowa City, Ames, and Des Moines.
