Things are going to get pretty slick in Illinois as freezing rain will cause road conditions to become very dangerous in the middle of the week.

A storm on Wednesday will bring cold temperatures and freezing rain to those in Illinois and throughout Iowa. Advisories are already being issued across the region to warn millions about the hazardous road conditions that are on the way.

Not only should you be aware of the extremely dangerous road conditions Wednesday evening, but this ice could be heavy enough to take down trees, power lines, and make it hard to even walk on.

Freezing Rain To Make Life A Nightmare In Iowa, Illinois

The National Weather Services of Chicago, the Quad Cities, and Des Moines are preparing millions of people for freezing rain Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Des Moines will see the freezing rain and awful road conditions the earliest with peak freezing rain around 3 p.m. Road conditions in Chicago will get worse starting around 9 p.m. and the Quad Cities will see road conditions become the worst with that freezing rain really taking its toll around 6 p.m.

How much ice are we going to get across the region? A little amount of ice, especially on roads that aren't treated or don't get treated until later, can be very dangerous. Bridges will also be absolutely terrifying to drive on as the rain comes down.

We'll see as much as 0.1 inches of ice accumulation across the Quad Cities. While it doesn't sound like much, it's enough to make travel and commuting a nightmare.
