Grocery Store Chain Opens First Iowa Location In Davenport
There's a new grocery store in town that's not Fareway, Aldi, or Hy-Vee.
Grocery store chain Gordon Restaurant Market has officially opened their new Davenport location, the chain's first in Iowa.
Gordon is a bulk food store that both the public and restaurants can shop. They have fresh meat (including a walk-in freezer that's open to customers), produce, dairy staples, and more groceries that are available in multiple sizes.
Gordon is now open to the public with no membership fees. Products are available in full or open cases and online ordering and delivery is available.
Their new location is at 340 West Kimberly (near Olive Garden and the mall). They're open Monday-Saturday 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Sundays 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Plus they have freshly-popped popcorn, according to people that have already been there.
You can keep up with the latest from the new Davenport Gordon location on their Facebook page and get more details on their location page. Currently, the closest Gordon to Davenport is in Peoria.
I know what you're thinking: cool but the West End is still a food desert after the Hy-Vee closed last summer.
There are still efforts going on to fix that. Just a few weeks ago, the Davenport City Council signed off on a measure that gives businesses along the Rockingham Road corridor grants in hopes of bringing on a new grocery store.
Meanwhile, in the other nugget of grocery store news this year, despite many people begging for it, Trader Joe's confirmed that they have no plans to open a location in Davenport.
