Summer Is The Best Season In Illinois But It's Not Perfect

Everyone has their favorite season. For me, it's summer especially as I get older. I much rather have warmer temperatures than cold. Even though I enjoy this time of year it's not perfect. Today I'm going to share five pros and cons of summer in Illinois.

The Five Best And Worst Things About Summer In Illinois

Good #1 - Weather

During the summertime in Illinois, we get lots of sun and warmer temperatures. It's a great season of the year to spend time outside. After being cooped up all winter it's nice to be able to get out and do some fun outdoor activities.

Bad #1 - Weather

I know it's kind of strange to consider weather as both a pro and con but I believe it really is. Summer can bring extreme heat and storms. Just think about the temperatures we've been experiencing lately. Plus, nothing ruins a fun summer outing like a downpour and lightning.

Good #2 - Grilling Out

Food just tastes better cooked out on a grill. My stomach is much happier with summer meal selections. Think about steaks, burgers, hot dogs, burgers, and veggies to just name a few things you can serve at a BBQ.

Bad #2 - Bugs

Bugs could be one of the most hated things about summer in Illinois. Mosquito bites are the worst. There are also ants, flies, bees, and other creepy crawlies to ruin your day.

Good #3 - Concerts

I love going to concerts but my favorite time of year to go check them out is during the summer. Outdoor shows have such a great vibe. There are places like Northerly Island in Chicago that are a highlight every year. Plus, all the outside local shows in and around Rockford are fun too.

Bad #3 - Yard Work

I realize some people enjoy yard work but I hate it. Mowing and pulling weed sucks. Especially in the extreme heat.

Good #4 - Sports

Summertime is a great time of year for sports. I was recently at a Rockford Rivets game. You can't beat the fun at the old ballpark. There are the hockey and basketball playoffs. If your team is still playing that's a good thing. It's the start of football training camp when you still have hope for your team. Plus, you have things like golf, tennis, softball, and so much more.

Bad #4 - Road Construction

It's just like clockwork. When the weather begins getting nice the orange cones start going up. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the roads getting fixed but it does make it much more difficult to get around town.

Good #5 - Vacation

Most people save their vacation hours for the summer. The kids are out of school so it's the perfect time to take road trips. I've always enjoyed my family's adventures. Places like Chicago can keep you very busy. Even a staycation can be fun.

Bad #5 - Hot Sand And Cold Water

Isn't it strange if you go to the beach somewhere like Florida the sand is cool and the water is warm but in Illinois, it's the exact opposite? I enjoy going to the Lake Michigan beaches but that water never warms up and the sand will burn your feet.
