Here’s Why Colorful Beans Were All Over A Popular Illinois River
April Fool's knows no limits.
There's a lot of stuff that ends up in the Chicago River. Besides being dyed green every St. Pat's, now for April Fool's, a bunch of colorful jellybeans have appeared in the river.
Okay but why? Harry Potter fans in particular will love the reason. The bright beans are meant to be giant Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans.
According to NBC Chicago, the Harry Potter Shop is expected to open in Chicago later this month (April 10th to be specific) on North Michigan Avenue. Karl Durrant, Senior Vice President, Warner Bros. Discovery Retail Experiences said the shop will have a "speakeasy-inspired Butterbeer bar" and will be "infused with nods to the city's rich history and unique culture".
What's Gone Into The River
The Chicago River is an interesting one, in part because it seems like there's a lot of stuff in it at any given time. Besides the green plumber's dye that always colors the river on St. Patrick's Day, it seems like there are often random things going into the river, whether it be for promotional stuff like this or some kind of stunt.
Over this last winter, they even had hot tub boats that floated along. And (gross but infamously) over 20 years ago, the driver of the Dave Matthews Band tour bus dumped the septic tank on people who were taking a boat tour on the river.
And no, if for whatever reason you're thinking about going for a swim in the river, it's not considered safe to swim in. Obviously.
