Take me out to the ball game. Take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack. I don't care if I never get back. It's a fun song, but you may need to stop at the bank on your way to the ballpark.

Snagging a ticket to the Field of Dreams game may have been the hottest catch in town, but it likely cost you big bucks.

Major League Baseball established that between June 2 and June 16, Iowa residents could register to participate in a lottery to be eligible to purchase tickets to the Field of Dreams Game. However, it was unclear how many of the 8,000 stadium seats were made available for purchase by Iowa residents.

To enter the drawing, you had to make an MLB.com account, have an Iowa zip code, and be at least 18 years old, but there was no charge to enter the lottery.

If your name was a lottery winner, you won a chance to buy tickets for the game between the Cubs and Reds. The cost of $375 each for two tickets, plus $76 for fees, for a total of $826. While that may seem like a lot of money for a night out at the ballpark, it's a real bargain compared to tickets for sale by online ticket brokers.

Searching the internet for tickets on the game day showed that inflation costs aren't just limited to gas and groceries, but also baseball games too!

One ticket broker website had seats for sale between $1355 and $2118. While that may seem eye-popping, it's still a bargain compared to what ticket broker FieldofDreamsGameTickets.com had for sale.

Big-time ticket brokers were in on the action, and FieldofDreamsGameTIckets.com sold tickets to the big game in Dyersville for big bucks!

How does $15,000 per ticket grab you? Make that $30k as their website states they only sell tickets in pairs of two, but the good news is that it also included an overnight hotel stay.

Those prices far exceed what most Iowa families might justify or afford for a night out at the ballpark.

But hopefully, the financial impact and widespread positive exposure for Dyersville and Dubuque will pay off and boost the local economy. Ultimately, I root, root, root for our home team.

Field of Dreams Game Featuring the Cedar Rapids Kernels

Cedar Rapids was the Bunnies for the day as they played the Quad Cities River Bandits, who were the Davenport Blue Sox. Both were an ode to team names of the individual cities nearly a century ago. Played on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, it was the first minor league baseball game ever played at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa.
