Snob, smug, pretentious, stuck up, full of themselves; all words that mean the same thing. We all run across people who a snobs. Maybe, without even knowing it, we can be snobby to people which is very rude. But there are higher numbers of snobs in some states compared to others. A new study has come out showing the snobbiest, and least snobbiest states in America. When it comes to the Quad Cities, it depends on what side of the river you're on when it comes to how snobby you are.

Before we get into this survey, obviously we know that on both sides of the river, there are areas that are considered where snobby people live (yeah, we're mainly looking at you, Bettendorf). But this survey from our friends at Zippia are looking at each state and how snobby they are as a whole.

To find out how snobby each state is, Zippia ranked each state in these four areas:

• Percent of population with a bachelor’s degree
• Percent of degree earners with a degree in arts and humanities
• Number of Ivy League colleges
• Gallons of wine consumed yearly

To find the percent of each state's population with a bachelor's degree, they used used data from the ACS.  Because arts and humanities add to the smugness, according to Zippia , they looked at those who earned a degree in arts and humanities using that data from the ACS.

Speaking of schools, Zippia also thought that Ivy League colleges added to the to someone's snob level. They looked at how many Ivy League colleges were in each state and the more of those types of schools there are, the most snobby the state is.

Finally, they looked at how much wine each state consumed each year. Why wine? Name me one people who doesn't look like a snob when they drink wine...

To determine how much wine each state consumes, Zippia took the gallons of table wine drank in each state according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. From there, they converted gallons into bottles, since that is the more standard purchase of wine. Roughly 1 gallon = 5 bottles of wine. Zippia does not that since some states are home to a lot of people and others a lot less, they then took into account the number of bottles consumed per capita.

These are the top 10 most snobbiest states in the country (1 being the most):

1. Massachusetts
2. Vermont
3. Connecticut
4. New York
5. New Hampshire
6. Rhode Island
7. California
8. Oregon
9. Maine
10. Virginia

These are the top 10 least snobbiest states in the country (1 being the least):

1. West Virginia
2. Mississippi
3. Oklahoma
4. Arkansas
5. Alabama
6. South Dakota
7. Wyoming
8. Iowa
9. South Carolina
10. Indiana

Below is the map showing how snobby, or not, each state is. One of the QC state's is a lot lest snobbier than the other one.

Zippia found that depending on what side of the Mississippi River you're on depends on how snobby you are. Zippia found that Iowans are a lot less snobby than Illinoisans. Iowa is the 43rd most snobbiest (or 8th least snobbiest) state in the country. These are the stats for Iowa and how they landed at #43:

• Adults With College Diploma - 28
• Degree Holders W/ Arts Or Humanities Degree - 21%
• Wine Bottles Per Person - 7

Illinoisans on the other hand, pretty snobby. Sure, it doesn't help that Chicago gets roped into this, but I didn't do the survey. Zippia found that Illinois is the 14th snobbiest state in the country. These are the stats for Illinois and how they landed at #14:

• Adults With College Diploma - 34
• Degree Holders W/ Arts Or Humanities Degree - 23%
• Wine Bottles Per Person - 14
