Shenanigans in Vegas.

If you stayed at select hotels in Las Vegas, it may be a good idea to start checking your mail on the regular.

According to NBC Chicago, there have been some data incidents at MGM Resorts hotels in recent years that's actually led to a class action lawsuit. If you stayed at any of their hotels, you could be eligible for a chunk of the $45 million settlement.

So here's how this all went down. Between July 2019-September 2023, there were "data incidents", which resulted in hotel guests' private information (Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, etc.) being leaked.

Back in September, MGM tried to put a stop to any cyberattacks by doing a 10-day computer shutdown and they deny any wrongdoing in the class action lawsuit.

Notices Are Going Out This Week

Fast forward to now, notices started being sent out February 20th (and will go out until April) to folks who may be eligible to file a claim in the suit. Your notice should include a "unique ID" and a PIN to file your claim.

Losses of up to $15,000 are eligible for inclusion in the suit, though some flat cash payments could come around without documentation. There are 3 tiers to this.

  • Tier 1: Social Security number of military ID number was leaked: $75 flat cash
  • Tier 2: Passport number or driver's license number was leaked: $50 flat cash
  • Tier 3: Name/address/date of birth was leaked: $20 flat cash
