CandyStore.com released its 2022's Most Popular Halloween Candy By State map, which will be helpful for those handing out candy on All Hallows Eve.

In order to determine each state's favorite Halloween candy, CandyStore.com looked at 15 years of sales data (2007-2021), looking in particular at the months leading up to Halloween. They also broke down sales by state and worked with major candy manufacturers and distributors who contributed and helped CandyStore.com reach its conclusions. CandyStore.com then charted the best sellers in every state for Halloween.

Here are a few fun Halloween candy facts, according to CandyStore.com:

  • 172 million Americans celebrate Halloween
  • 30% of all Halloween purchases are made online
  • Among those who celebrate Halloween, 95% will purchase candy
  • They will spend about $27.55 on average
  • Most Halloween shopping is done in the first 2 weeks of October.
  • In Oregon, full-sized candy bars are the norm for trick-or-treaters to receive
  • Overall Halloween spending is expected to be $10.6B in 2022
  • Over 50% of parents stash some Halloween candy to enjoy later in the year

How Much Is America Spending On Candy?

When it comes to buying candy, CandyStore.com learned from the National Retail Federation that Halloween candy spending should hit $3.1 Billion this year. That's $100 million more than last year.

America's Favorite Halloween Candies

When we look at America as a whole, CandyStore.com found that the U.S. likes both chocolate and sour/fruit candies evenly. America's overall favorite Halloween candy is Reese's Cups.

Iowa's & The Quad Cities' Favorite Halloween Candies

If you're handing out candy on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, you're going to want to make sure you have chocolate and lots of it. Iowa's top 3 favorite Halloween candies are all chocolate.

As you can from the map above, Iowa's favorite Halloween candy is M&M's. Originally created in the U.S. in 1941 by the Mars company, M&M's has been a candy favorite for almost every American and people around the world.

Iowans are expected to eat 65,779 lbs of M&M's, 57,821 lbs of Reese's Cups, and 51,729 lbs of Hershey's Mini Bars.
