Iowa AG Now Suing The Obviously High-End Shopping App, Temu
The Temu jokes are never-ending as are the lawsuits, evidently.
Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is joining multiple other states' attorney generals in suing the China-linked shopping app Temu.
If you've ever shopped Temu, you know it's mostly low-quality items at ridiculously low prices (I literally found a build-a-house kit for $77). It's not high or medium-end stuff.
'Temu versions' of stuff always mean low-quality compared to the original, or something is definitely not what was pictured. For example:

Now, Iowa joins multiple other states suing Temu on the grounds that it goes against Iowa's Consumer Fraud Act. AG Bird's lawsuit says that Temu collects personal information from users, including minors, in what is a "misappropriation by Chinese authorities".
The lawsuit also calls out Temu on the same issues in that TikTok- that Temu is "deceptively representing" the quality of it's products.
It also says some of Temu's products are made in a Chinese province that's known for forcing people in the Uyghur minority to work against their will in forced labor camps.
Temu's parent company, PDD Holdings, was "credibly accused" by Congress of selling products made with forced labor. 21 state AG's came after Temu in 2024.
AG Bird also claims that Temu was modeled off of PDD Holdings' other online marketplace app, Pinduoduo, which was banned from Google's App Marketplace due to malware.
The state of Iowa is seeking reimbursement and for Temu to stop the alleged unlawful conduct. Other states filing lawsuits with Temu include Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Arizona, and Texas.
