Iowa Man Decorates Entire Street In Christmas Lights For Terminally Ill Wife
Someone get Hallmark on the phone.
This has to be the most romantic story we'll see all holiday season. We love to see that love like this still exists.
John Reichart of Indianola tells KCCI that he's been building Christmas decor in his garage since September. This week, he finished setup of it in his neighborhood, spanning more than 20 lawns.
The Vietnam vet created displays that have flashing roof lights, different colored spiral trees in the yards, and plenty of Christmas characters like Snoopy, Mickey Mouse, snowmen, and more.
The Kids Love It
Reichart's neighbor, Frank Ewurs, said that kids are loving the display:
Just hearing the kids walk down the street and yell at their mom or dad, 'Look at this, look at this, let's go look at this.' (You see) their walks turn into speed walking or slow jogs so they can get to one house from the next
Reichart says he's happy the onlookers enjoy the lights but there's only one person he hopes likes the festive display.
It's For His Wife
Reichart's wife is a breast cancer survivor who now has Alzheimer's. They've always loved Christmas and that's been something that's bonded them, according to Reichart.
Reichart said:
She will remember this. She wanted Christmas, so I give her Christmas.
You're welcome to go see the display. It's on E. Franklin Avenue in Indianola. The lights turn on after sunset and stay on until 11:00 p.m. They will be up through the end of 2024.
Now if you'll excuse me, someone must be cutting onions.
