Iowa Man Dressed As Cowboy Pleads Guilty To Bank Robbery
One Iowa man got really into character for a bank robbery.
According to KCCI, a man from Promise City, Iowa pled guilty in federal court in August to the armed robbery of a bank in Missouri.
Phillip Michael Blink, 67, didn't rob the First Interstate Bank in Princeton, Missouri in normal clothes though. He donned the outfit of a cowboy: hat, red bandana, gloves, and a trenchcoat (one of the old-school trenchcoats, with shoulder flaps).
According to court records, on May 19th, 2023, Blink walked up to the teller and said, "I’m sorry, but this is going to be a bad morning."
While the teller was putting bills from her machine into a bag, Blink pulled out a gun and said, "I told you it was going to be a bad morning."
It reads like a bad western movie script.
Blink made off like a bandit (pun intended) and stole $4,115 before he was arrested in Knoxville, Iowa. He pled guilty on August 30th and now faces up to 25 years in prison for armed robbery and an additional five years for possessing a firearm during the crime.
What we don't know is why he decided to do this. Was it like a bucket list thing to rob a bank like they did in the old western TV shows? We may never know. We also don't know if the teller thought she had stumbled into a movie set or if she was being pranked. That's where my mind would've gone.
