My fellow pet parents, it's another holiday which means we need to be careful of a few things when it comes to our pets.

Kimberly Crest Veterinary Hospital shared some really good tips on Facebook to help ease your furbaby's anxiety and keep them safe this Halloweekend.

Chocolate, Candy, Gum, and Stuff Like Cupcake Wrappers Aren't Good For Pets To Find

Chocolate and gum have the chemical xylitol, which can prove deadly for pets. Also, it's just a good practice to keep things clean.

Strobe Lights, Loud Noises, And Animated Things Can Scare Them

My dog cannot handle jump scares. My cats rip apart any kind of cord so string lights aren't an option. It all boils down to just knowing your pets and what can make them uncomfortable.

To That Point...The Doorbell Going Off All Night

Never in my nearly 30 years of owning dogs have I ever had one who does not mind the doorbell. I or my dad would stay with the pup in a room or other part of the house for a few hours until the trick-or-treaters subsided or we ran out of candy. This is the kind of thing you need to make a game plan for now so you're not trying to deal with 3 chaotic things at once. You might greet trick-or-treaters outside or leave the candy at the door.

Battery-Operated Or Electric Candles Are Your Friend

You've probably figured out by now that your dog or cat can and will get into a lot of stuff so maybe lit candles that you're not able to constantly pay attention to are not the best of decor ideas on a busy night.

Obviously, there's the superstition but also the fact that so many people are out late and it's pitch black outside. Make sure your black cat is microchipped.

And Last But Certainly Not Least: Don't Dress Them Up If They Don't Like It

I feel like I have said this ad nauseam. If your pet rejects a costume, don't try to squeeze them in it for the 'gram or to go trick-or-treating with you. None of my current pets like costumes and I'm not going to try to put bat wings on either of my cats because that $15 would be useful for maybe 0.2 seconds.

If Your Pet Really Hates The Holidays, Talk To Your Vet

As stressful as the holidays are for adults, just think about the pets. They don't know why a ton of kids are suddenly ringing your doorbell in scary costumes, or why a ton of people are now at your house that smells like turkey. Just pay attention to your pet. If you notice anxiety or odd behavior, contact your vet for further advice.
