Iowa vs. Minnesota: How To Watch The Hawk’s First Road Game
Conference play will officially begin for the Hawkeyes and the Big Ten. Iowa will be on the road for the first time in the 2024 season as they head to Minneapolis to take on the Gophers.
Both teams walk into week 4 with a 2-1 record. Minnesota lost the first week by 2 points. The Hawkeyes had a heartbreaking loss to in-state rival, Iowa State in week 2 when the Cyclones made a last second field goal to win the game.
It Wasn't A Fair Catch
As we head into week 4 and into the Iowa vs. Minnesota game, we have to remember when the world's worst call was made during the same game last year. Let's take a trip back to October 21, 2023:
With 1:40 left to go in the game and Iowa down 12-10, Minnesota punted the ball to Iowa, and there to receive was Cooper DeJean. DeJean initially didn't catch the ball, but let it bounce once at the Iowa 49-yard line before grabbing it at the 46. DeJean then returned the ball 54 yards to put Iowa ahead of Minnesota essentially securing the Hawkeyes win. That seemed to be the case until the officials announced a call no one had heard before; Invalid Fair Catch.
The Floyd of Rosedale trophy, given to the winner of the Iowa vs. Minnesota game every year, currently resides in the north. The Hawkeyes have a chance to bring back to Iowa City, but they first need to get through Minnesota's hot offense and good defense.
Minnesota is really on a hot streak right now. They have shut out both opponents over the past two weeks and scored a combined 75 points. Senior quarterback Max Brosmer leads the Gophers offense. Their running game is being dominated by sophomore Darius Taylor.
Iowa's running back, Kaleb Johnson, leads the NCAA with 479 yards through week 3. It appears that Brendan Sullivan has become Iowa's red zone quarterback while Cade McNamara remains in the QB1 spot. Plus, Iowa's defense remains one of the best in the nation and is the reason why Iowa can stand a chance in the Big Ten.
