The coronavirus pandemic has been hard on all of us... And our livers.

When this thing started, my fiance and I actually went to Hy-Vee to purchase fun liquors and a cocktail shaker to give us something to do on the weekends during quarantine. Luckily, she also has a book with over 500 cocktail recipes. Needless to say, I've made a lot of Tom Collins and Cosmopolitans these past few months. I think I made a pitcher of homemade Sangria at some point too...

Many Iowans and Illinoisans are also looking to become "quarantine bartenders" and are looking up some pretty interesting drinks.

Google and Bro Bible have been tracking the most searched drink recipes in each state for the last 30 days. They found that the most popular drink recipe search was The Old Fashioned.

One of the most obvious findings on here were that New Yorkers have been searching for the recipe for Manhattans.

Manhattans were also the most searched recipe in Illinois. 5 states in the U.S. have searched for the recipe for a Kamikaze, including Iowa. By the way, a Kamikaze is a shot.

  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Garnish: brandied cherry
  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 3/4 oz Orange liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Fresh lime juice

The most interesting sounding drink name on this list, in my opinion, is the Buschwacker, which was the most searched drink recipe in Tennessee. The ingredients for a Buschwacker are:

  • 1 oz Dark Rum
  • 1 oz Coffee Liqueur
  • 1 oz Creme de Cacao
  • 2 oz Cream of Coconut
  • 2 oz Whole Milk
  • Chocolate Syrup to garnish

If you're over 21, give some of these recipes a try this weekend and good luck becoming a "quarantine bartender."
