Iowans Can Put These 5 Surprise, Stinky Summer Items In The Washing Machine
Warm temperatures means everything stinks.
Whether or not you like it, temps are in the 90's, we're all getting sweaty just by existing, and everything in our houses and our cars just get hot.
Sports equipment and gym bags are the worst. My figure skating bag is especially smelly right now, no matter how much I spray it and air it out. If your kid plays baseball or a summer sport or you take a duffel to the gym every day, you know the smell really well.
But good news! Experts say that there's a lot of stuff that you can just throw in the washer. There are some stipulations like what cycles to wash it on or if it needs to go in a mesh bag but scroll down for stinky stuff you can put in the washer!
5. Sneakers & Shoelaces
These should go in a mesh bag to be washed like delicates.
4. Baseball Caps
These things can get sweaty. Even if you're not running in them, you're outside in 90+ degree weather. They get really gross. Experts say you can toss them in a mesh bag to put in the washer on delicate but if you're really concerned with keeping their shape, handwash them.
3. Sports Gear
Sports gear, like shin guards, can go in a mesh bag in the washer. CubeSmart says jersey, pants, gloves, and pads can all go in the washing machine, just make sure to attach Velcro to it's partner so it doesn't snag.
2. Gym Bags
Yep, we can toss that stinky gym bag in with our next load of laundry. This one you don't have to put in a mesh bag, but don't overload the drum if it's big.
1. Kids Dress-Up Clothes & Plushies
These need to go in a mesh bag on delicate too. For the plastic toys that kids are playing with this summer, if they can handle a dishwasher cycle, that's the best place to put them.
Clean smarter, not harder this summer!
