Is There A Fried Chicken War Between Two Iowa Gas Stations?

Can you feel that tension? It felt like it started this week when one Iowa-based gas station said it had come out with a new fried chicken sandwich along with a few other hot sandwiches.

The announcement comes just days after its primary competitor in Iowa revealed it was giving away fried chicken for life. That's right, you could get fried chicken for life.

If you haven't had the new fried chicken sandwich from the one Iowa gas station or fried chicken from the other, don't worry I have. There is a war and it's hard to pick sides. I mean obviously, I pick ranch as my side dipping sauce, but I mean Casey's or Kwik Star.

The Original Fried Chicken War

If the "fried chicken war" sounds slightly familiar, we had one not too long ago among the top fast-food restaurants in the U.S. The "great fried chicken sandwich war" began in 2020, according to Restaurant Business.

It started with Popeye's coming out with a new chicken sandwich and Chick-fil-A throwing shade online. See the full timeline below.

Earlier this week, Casey's announced that it has added two new fried chicken sandwiches to its warmers and two other hot sandwiches. Those sandwiches include the Crispy Chicken sandwich, Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich, and the Quarter Pound Angus Beef Burger, alongside an upgrade to the Breaded Pork Sandwich.

Less than a week before that, Casey's biggest rival, Kwik Star, announced it was giving away free fried chicken for life. Yes, for life!

Now through April 8th, 2024, if you're a Kwik Rewards member and make an eligible fried chicken purchase at all Kwik Trip and Kwik Star locations in Iowa or any other location, will get you entered into a drawing that could win one free 8-piece fried chicken per week for life.

I'm not going to lie, Kwik Star fried chicken is tasty. I also had the Casey's Spicy Crispy Chicken sandwich and that was fire. This war is just starting to heat up and I'm here for it.
