Naked Wisconsin Man Stole Ambulance, Lead Police On Chase With Patient In Back
There was a wild pursuit in Wisconsin this week when the call came over the police radio that an ambulance, with a patient inside and all, was stolen.
According to the cops, the Wisconsin Rapids paramedics had already loaded a patient into the ambulance when a bystander jumped into the driver's seat, and forced the paramedics to jump off for their own safety as the ambulance sped off.
With the ambulance's lights flashing through the entire pursuit (so at least he was safe about it), the driver was swerving around spike strips, and flying down bumpy dirt roads at a landfill before hitting Highway 73.
The chase lasted around 20 minutes, with speeds hitting 70mph, until a tire popped and caused the vehicle to swerve off of the road near Pittsville.
Police weren't sure what they'd be coming up on, so they deployed a drone to evaluate the scene before approaching with rifles and ballistic shields.
"Come out of the ambulance! This is the Wood County Sheriff's Department. Come out with your hands in the air and surrender. You are surrounded," officers called out, as you can see on bodycam.
As the man got out of the ambulance, it was obvious that he wasn't carrying any weapons on him, because he was completely naked.
The man was placed face down on the ground, handcuffed, and hauled off in a squad car.
As for the patient in the back of the ambulance throughout the entire ordeal, they were finally taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment, and the driver was hauled off to the Wood County Jail.
Police said the suspect was 37-year-old Benjamin Feltz of Nekoosa. He's still in custody with charges still coming through, one of which was third offense of driving while intoxicated.
There was no explanation of what happened to his clothes.
