The Truth About Tesla Drivers In Illinois: High Incidents Revealed
Tesla has been in the news pretty much since the cars were introduced to the public, but especially recently, with Elon Musk making news in the world of politics and the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas.
What about the people who drive the cars? Are they good drivers or bad drivers? Or, are they driving at all? The latest study of accidents, DUIs, speeding, and citations does not look good for Tesla drivers in Illinois.
The Vehicle Brand With The Most Driving Incidents
The folks at Lending Tree conducted a study to find out what vehicle brands are the worst for "incidents" in America. The number 1 and 2 on the list are two very different types of vehicles with probably two very different kinds of drivers.
10 - Toyota
Toyota cracks the Top 10 with 25.13 incidents per 1000 drivers.
9 - Hyundai
8 - Infiniti
If you are ever in Rhode Island watch out for anybody in an Infiniti. Rhode Island Infiniti drivers had 64.69 incidents per 1,000 drivers.
7 - Lexus
6 - BMW
After a long day on the golf course with a few drinks folks hop in their BMW to drive home...and in the process get a DUI. BMW drivers have the highest DUI rate at 3.13 DUIs per 1,000 drivers. That is almost twice the rate of DUIs compared to the other auto brands.
5 - Mazda
4 - Volkswagen
They don't make the Beetle anymore, but their other brands still have 27.92 incidents per 1000 drivers.
3 - Subaru
Only 3 brands have incident rates over 30 and Subaru is the first over that threshold. But they probably get in more accidents cause they are traveling through hazardous weather conditions and on backroads to their next hiking adventure.
2 - Tesla
Tesla drivers are number two on the overall incident list but they are number one when it comes to amount of accidents. From Nov. 14, 2022, through Nov. 14, 2023, Tesla drivers had 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers.
With an overall incident rate of 31.13 per 1,000 drivers, Teslas come in just behind a vehicle much unlike the electric brand.
1 - Ram
Ram has 32.90 incidents per 1,000 drivers and are the worst in 23 states, including Illinois which had 32.23 incidents per 1,000 drivers.
Ram drivers had more speeding incidents per 1,000 drivers (4.42) than all other brands. Ram drivers also had the second most accidents (22.76) and DUIs (1.72) and the fifth most citations (8.00).
If you can ever get a Ram driver and a Tesla driver to talk maybe you can figure out why they are both so bad at driving. Good luck.
