It's been a snowy start to the 2025/2026 Quad Cities winter.  And there is more already in the forecast for the next 2 weeks.  Which means more shoveling, blowing, and plowing.

The snow doesn't always, or ever, come at a convenient time.  So that can sometimes lead to having to remove the snow at inconvenient times.  But that shouldn't mean waking your neighbors from a nice winter slumber.

There are no statewide noise ordinances for either Iowa or Illinois.  It's a city-by-city ordinance.  Typically, larger cities have more leeway while rural areas...well, let's be real, if you are really rural, you can get the plow out whenever you want.

In general, Google says Iowa's quiet hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., while Illinois's 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

So it's snowing at night...what to do?

Just Be Courteous To Your Neighbors When It Snows

Do you really need to run the snow blower at 10:45 at night?  Or at 6:45 in the morning?  Ultimately, no, you do not.  Even if you have to go somewhere that late or early, one drive over the snow in the driveway is not going to pack the snow down that much that it will be stuck there till spring.

Now, to get specific, DavenportBettendorf, and Moline noise ordinance laws are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.

Rock Island is the only one that is slightly different.  General times are the same; however, they also specifically state quiet hours last until 8:00 a.m. for apartments.  Does that mean the apartment won't start the lot plowing until then, too?

Really, at the end of the day, be courteous to your neighbors cause they are the ones you are keeping up when they have to wake up early on a Sunday...just saying.
