Illinois Resident Hears Someone Local Won $1 Million, Figures Out It Was Them
Sometimes the office gossip mill isn't a bad thing.
One of the great (and sometimes worst) things about smaller areas is that there are no secrets. Everyone knows everybody's business. In Justice, Illinois, a town of 12,600, that's what happened.
Illinois Lottery says a Justice resident (who is only going by the psuedonym 'Rainy Day Fund') decided they would get $10 worth of lottery tickets when they were filling up their gas tank.
After the drawing on July 10th, they heard tell at the office that someone in Justice had won $1 million. 'Rainy Day Fund' says this is what happened next:
I found out the next day at work that someone in Justice had won. That’s where I bought my ticket, so I scanned mine with the app. At first, I thought I had won $1,000. Then I scanned it again, and a few more zeroes popped up. I had to do a double take and scanned it about 20 more times before it finally sank in. I was freaking out.
I would definitely think my app malfunctioned.
The winning ticket, which was bought at the Citgo at 8755 W. 79th Street in Justice, matched all six Lotto Million 1 numbers.
I'd be willing to bet that even though 'Rainy Day Fund' is anonymous with the Illinois Lottery, the village of Justice knows exactly who it is. And for 'Rainy Day Fund', the timing of the win was great. Here's what they said they're doing with the money:
My friends are in the financial industry, so I’m hoping they’ll help me invest wisely. But one thing’s for sure—I’ll be using some of it for my wedding and honeymoon next year.
A million dollar win right before a wedding? They must be living right for that kind of timing!
