Kanye West To Receive “Video Vanguard” Award At VMAs

Kanye West will be given the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards.

Say what you will about Kanye...he's annoying, pompous, controversial, outrageous and, well...a Kardashian. But he's also a musical genius.

Kanye puts a lot of thought and creativity into his projects. Many of his songs are classics and many of his videos are visually stunning and stimulating.

Sunday, he'll join the likes of Michael Jackson (after whom the award was renamed in 1991), Janet Jackson, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and, Beyonce as recipients of the award.

For all the controversy, Kanye really is an immensely gifted and talented artist and I'm glad he's being recognized in a positive way (even though he'll probably ruin it with an obnoxious, self-important acceptance speech). #Yeezus
