Check your refrigerator immediately to ensure you don't have these recalled eggs.

A massive warning and recall from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come down on eggs from Wisconsin sold in that state along with several others. The recall is because the eggs are being linked to a Salmonella outbreak.

On September 6, 2024, Milo’s Poultry Farms LLC in Wisconsin recalled eggs that were sold to stores and restaurants in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois. This includes all different types of chicken eggs types, such as cage-free, or organic, along with cases and carton sizes labeled with “Milo’s Poultry Farms” or “Tony’s Fresh Market.”

The CDC reports that a total of 65 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella have been reported from 9 states. Wisconsin and Illinois have the highest number of illnesses reported with Wisconsin reporting 42 and Illinois reporting 11, respectively.

Iowa has reported 2 people with the Salmonella disease from this outbreak.

Illnesses started on dates ranging from May 23, 2024, to August 10, 2024. Of 63 people with information available, 24 have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.

Officials from the CDC say that the number of sick people in this outbreak is likely much higher than the number reported. This is because many people recover without medical care and are not tested for Salmonella. The outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses.

Besides Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois, other states reporting people the Salmonella illness include California, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Utah, and Virginia.

If you are in possession of the recalled eggs, do not eat them. Throw them away or return them to where you bought them. Wash items and surfaces that may have touched the recalled eggs using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.
