To live in a state that is named one of the most fun states is pretty cool. If you live in Illinois, that's you!

Illinois was named one of the top 10 states in America, according to this updated study. Illinois is obviously a blast and you can thank the City of Chicago for that one. Think about all of the stuff that Chicago has to offer from activities, professional sports, entertainment, food, drinks, and everything else.

But how does one actually determine which states are super fun and which ones are super lame? Let's take a look at how this was determined.

Finding America's Most Fun States

WalletHub has updated its list to show which states are the most fun in 2024. To determine the most fun states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across two key categories

  • Entertainment & Recreation
  • Nightlife

They evaluated those categories using 26 relevant metrics After some swanky math, WalletHub calculated each state's overall score and ranked them.

Illinois landed as the 6th most fun state in the U.S. Illinois was 7th in entertainment and recreation, and was 6th in nightlife. The study found that Illinois has the 3rd most performing arts theaters per capita and the 5th most restaurants per capita.

Iowa could have done better but didn't do the worst for being Iowa. The Hawkeye State was ranked 35th overall. Iowa does have the 4th most movie theaters per capita and the 2nd most golf courses and country clubs per capita.

The most fun state for 2024 is Florida while West Virginia ranked last.
