Monday night's storms brought severe damage and power outages throughout Iowa and the Quad Cities. Even as of Wednesday morning, MidAmerican reports that almost 700 people are still without power in the Quad Cities. More than 300 people in Des Moines also have no power.

Derecho, Tornadoes Rips Through Iowa & The Quad Cities

Monday night, the Quad Cities was hit with another derecho which also produced tornadoes that damaged homes and businesses. The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities confirms that three EF-1 tornadoes touched down in the Quad Cities, including one right in the heart of the metro.

Residents of Davenport, Des Moines, Moline, Rock Island, and other areas were left without power and experienced road closures due to debris from the thunderstorms.

U-Haul has announced that allowing access to dry and secure self-storage units and portable storage containers is critical for communities during the recovery process.

“We’ve seen and heard of damage and power outages throughout the Quad Cities,” noted Mike Shorter, U-Haul Company of Eastern Iowa president. “We want to help our neighbors dealing with the aftermath of these storms as they prepare to clean up or rebuild their homes.”

The 30-day free offer applies to new self-storage and portable container rentals and is based on availability. U-Box containers can be delivered and picked up to residences at no additional cost as part of the disaster relief program.
