National Night Out is an annual, nationwide community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. As you may have noticed, it’s also an opportunity to party! Neighborhoods across the country are hosting block parties, cookouts, festivals and parades to bring their communities together in an effort to prevent crime and drug use in their neighborhoods. It’s free and open to everyone—young or old, residents or visitors alike! Below is a list of some events happening in the Quad Cities.

About National Night Out

On August 7, 1981, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed that every first Tuesday of August would be National Night Out in order to heighten crime awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Why is National Night Out Important?

There are many different reasons to participate in National Night Out. It’s a great way to get involved with your neighbors, build relationships with local law enforcement officers and crime prevention specialists, and most importantly – it makes us all safer. Local communities celebrate public safety with block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals and other events that bring neighbors together in celebration of being part of a watchful community.
