Road closure news is normally not bad news, but it's never good news. This is good road closure news but you'll have to hear me out.

For the past few months, I've driven on Locust Street in Davenport to work and back home. I've had to deal with people blatantly ignoring traffic codes, signs, construction equipment, and other cars which have been close to resulting in bad crashes. All of that nonsense is moments away from being over (for the most part) and I literally couldn't be more excited.

Crews have already completed one side of Locust Street between Lincoln and Clark Streets. I feel bad for the businesses but that section of Locust has needed to be redone for quite a while. To get this project wrapped up, new road closures on the north side of Locust have begun because these crews are about to finish up that side.

Officials with the Davenport Public Works Department announced that starting today, Nov. 4th, 2024, motorists need to watch for closures on the north half of Locust St to extend through the intersection at Clark St for approximately two to three weeks. This is happening so the contractor can perform asphalt and finish work in the northern lanes.

Need to go north on Clark Street? Clark will only be accessible south of Locust through the intersection during this time so you'll need to go around the block.

Fresh asphalt needs to cool before vehicles drive sufficiently on the surface which means don't try and drive on it. Don't ignore the cones like I've seen you do. It's extremely important to pay attention to all traffic control devices so you don't delay my early Christmas present any longer.

Officials say that there will be periods when driveways will not be accessible along the stretch between Clark and Lincoln. They're talking to you McDonald's addicts. You'll need to bah-dah-ba-ba-bop to a different location. I swear, anyone who tries to go over that fresh asphalt because you're craving a Big Mac but you can't drive 5 more minutes to a different location, I will find you and I will shake my head like a disappointed father.

Pretty please, use alternate entrances or just go to a different place that sells the same thing or provides the same services. After the road is done, please give these businesses some extra love because they deserve it! The entire road is expected to re-open mid-to-late November. Maybe on my birthday? Let's hope.
