A petition was started the other day to Stop Riverdale from cutting access between Mississippi River Trail and Duck Creek Trail.

For many bike riders this trail offers a safe and enjoyable biking experiences. It is a small paved path that leads to a public road (Kensington St) that cyclists take to connect to Duck Creek path.

The petition was started by James McAdam. It states,

"As most people know, there is a small paved path that leads to a public road (Kensington St) that cyclists take to connect to Duck Creek path. Several Haven's Acres residents in this neighborhood of Riverdale, Iowa have always been hostile to the idea of sharing the road and are now attempting to divert bicycle traffic across a busy 4 lane, high-speed intersection at Bellingham Rd and backtrack on either this busy road (HWY 67) or dangerous narrow sidewalk to Duck Creek Trail.

McAdam also addressed the dangers of this fence for cyclists.

The proposed fence will essentially cut off all bicycle & pedestrian traffic to Kensington St which is the access to the trail head of Duck Creek Trail that contains a safe underpass under US67 highway, as well as Duck Creek Pancake House and My Place bar (establishments frequently visited by cyclists).

Tell the City of Riverdale this is not a step forward but instead several steps backwards in promoting a bicycling friendly town."

Over 2,500 people have already signed the petition, and you can sign it as well. There is also a facebook page.
