WATCH: Illinois Motorcyclist Runs Out Of Gas In Police Chase, Tries To Push Bike With Feet
It must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
A lot of us will push our cars to E and keep driving with faith in the car until we really do run out of gas. That must have been this dude's mentality in Peoria.
According to 6ABC, a guy was arrested in Peoria on Wednesday after he led deputies on a chase on a motorcycle that was reported stolen. Evidently, World's Greatest Motorcycle Thief here forgot to check the gas gauge.
Officers first tried to initiate the traffic stop because they noticed the motorcycle didn't have registration. That's when the suspect, Donald Shaw, started the chase and at least tried to put the pedal to the metal.
Shaw didn't get far before he ran out of gas and then started trying to pedal the bike with his feet on Harmon Highway. Peoria County Sheriff's Office posted the chase video (the gas runout is around 0:45)
I'm not sure how he thought the pedal waddling was going to go? You're not gonna get much horsepower on your own two legs?
Shaw, meanwhile, was arrested for felony warrants, fleeing and eluding, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. There's no word from the sheriff's office about possible fines or jail time for these offenses.
It's a cautionary tale: if you do decide to start a police chase in something stolen, maybe check the gas gauge first before your illegal activities, and find yourself a nice comfy gas station.
