Get Ready For Perfect ‘Bonfire Weather’ This Weekend In The Quad Cities
I'll admit it. As much as I dislike the arrival of fall because winter is next, I do love the perfect bonfire weather that comes with the autumn season.
This weekend will not only bring us our first "crisp" college football Saturday, but it will also bring literal perfect bonfire weather. Sure, you probably have been having fires all summer long, but you'll want to make sure you're stacked up on wood, kindling, marshmallows, chocolates, and graham crackers for the weekend.
Cooler nights and even a cool Saturday is in the forecast. We'll get back to some summer-feeling weather very soon so for you fall lovers out there, start searching for your favorite hoodie while you're thinking of it.
Can I Have A Recreational Fire In My Town?
Yes, you can, as long as you follow the rules that your city has put into place.
Davenport has many rules about recreational fires but they define a recreational fireas the burning of wood for pleasure or cooking, either contained or uncontained, as long as the total fire area is less than 8 feet in diameter and 4 feet in height, and at least 25 feet from the nearest structure or combustible material.
Bettendorf says that open fires for cooking, heating, recreation, and ceremonies shall be allowed when such fire is not composed in whole or substantial part of leaves and the location of such fire, and the items necessary for its containment, comply with the provisions of the fire code. However, all such fires have other limits like no fire shall continue beyond 10:00 p.m. The other rules can be found here.
You can have a recreational fire in Moline as well. They do not require a permit but there are restrictions including that recreational fires cannot contain leaves or yard waste. They are also only allowed between the hours of 12:00 noon and 12:00 midnight.
Rock Island lets you have a fire too. They have limitations to having a recreational fire like the other cities. Limitations and rules like recreational fires are permitted between the hours of 7:00 am to 11:00 pm. and fires must be attended at all times with a means of extinguishment readily available.
Perfect Bonfire Weather Ahead This Weekend
The National Weather Service is calling for perfect bonfire weather this weekend. Highs will dip down to just the mid to upper 60s on Saturday while lows on Friday and Saturday night will only be in the 40s.
The cooler nights will be perfect to get your sweatshirt and blankets out and tell your partner to start up the fire.
The other bonus about this weekend is we don't have any rain in the immediate forecast.
The heat returns with a lot of sunshine for next week. No precipitation is in the forecast for a while either. The grass and plants will love the sun but maybe keep your hose out from your fire to give them some water.
