While we had extreme cold this week, Louisiana had unprecedented snow.

Speaking as someone from the south, we don't know what to do with snow. Everything shuts down, we cannot drive in it, even if it's just a dusting. Louisiana especially isn't used to snow.

So earlier this week, the state was thrown for a loop when Blizzard Warnings were issued that included the town of Iowa, Louisiana.

Iowa is in Calcasieu Parish, in the Lake Charles area, with a population of about 3,400. It's about 3.2 miles square miles. It's in the southwest corner of the state.

Iowa, Louisiana cleaned up on the snow. Initial measurements are still rolling in but NWS Lake Charles estimates that the area got anywhere from 6-12" of snow.

Here was a Weatherbug camera picture of Iowa, Louisiana as of Wednesday morning.

Even though the snow is cleared off on a lot of Louisiana roads, many are saying that the roads are still very icy.

Some roads are looking kind of snowy around Iowa though:

Windy and snowy to us sounds like a normal January but some places in Louisiana haven't seen snow like this since 1895.

Do they want the negative temperatures too? We don't mind passing those along either.

U.S. Government's Level 4 Do Not Travel List
