Since the terror attacks of 9/11, the bane of air travel has been enhanced security procedures. While the TSA's job is to keep us safer in the air, one wonders if some of their procedures are really nothing more than inconvenient symbolism (shoes?)

What TSA screening has done is create some lengthy lines at airports across the country. Our own Quad Cities airport is not immune to security screening delays. Quad City International Airport officials are now warning fliers to arrive earlier, especially for the early morning flights.

Several flights depart Moline within a one hour window between 5:30 and 6:30am. Up to 250 passengers are going through TSA screening at the same time during the early morning hours, causing lengthy delays. Recently, many passengers have been missing their flights because they aren't arriving at the airport at the recommended two-hour ahead of flight departure time.

In response to concerns by the airlines, Quad City International Airport officials posted a warning on their Facebook page on Friday reminding customers to arrive at least 90 minutes to two hours before departure time to avoid missing flights.

It may seem unbearable to arrive at the airport at 4:30am for a 6:30am flight, but it sure beats being left behind.
