Rock Island Mourns the Loss of Student

Memorial Day weekend turned tragic for this Rock Island family.

I sit here with tears as I write. I am saddened, as a parent of teens, a community member and my heart breaks for this family and Tyler's friends. I hope they can find some comfort today in helping one another grieve and in the advice the counselors at Rock Island High School give.

Tyler John was very active in school and participated in an array of school functions.

According to WQAD.com,

According to authorities, 17-year-old Tyler J. John was found dead at Hillcrest Resort in rural Orion, Illinois. He had been reported missing around 11 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016, and was later found dead in the resort’s pool.

Tyler John was a junior at Rock Island High School, according to his obituary on Wheelan-Pressly’s website.  He was involved in track, cross country, German Club, marching band, jazz band, and symphonic band.  He was also involved with the ROTC and was enlisted in the Army Reserve.
