See The New Shopping Carts Coming To Illinois Walmarts
There may soon be a new option at Walmart.
Currently, your decision walking into a supermarket or grocery store is if you want the big cart, an electric cart, the small 2-tiered one (my personal favorite), or the racecar/kiddy cart.
Walmarts are going to have a new option soon.
Caroline's Cart
The new carts are called Caroline's Carts and they have a large seat in the back that's designed to "help caregivers of adults and children who have disabilities, limited mobility, or injuries more easily make their way through the store". The carts can hold someone between 35-250 pounds sitting in a seat with a five-point harness. They look like this:
Walmart has just rolled it out into 11 states. At the moment, Walmart Supercenters have 2 of these carts and the Neighborhood Markets have 1. They plan to have it in all Walmart stores by early 2025, making a nationwide total of about 8,000 carts.
Cedric Clark, executive vice president of store operations at Walmart said:
Equipping our stores with Caroline’s Carts provides some relief to parents and caregivers who need this tool and know it’s available at their Walmart. Whether they’re caring for someone with a disability or a temporary injury, the carts support our customers when and how they need it every time they come through our doors
The company said the carts are meant to help them create a more inclusive shopping experience. Last year, they started doing their sensory-friendly hours again, where from 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. daily they dim lights where they can and turn off the radio.
