Teen Job Fair Coming to Davenport
A job fair aimed at helping teens with the job-seeking and job-landing experience will be in Davenport.
I remember my first job well. If we don't count babysitting, I was a waitress at a little diner on the outskirts of the Quad Cities. I was kindly mentored by the older waitresses and quickly learned about early mornings, customer service and messed up orders. What I learned in my early days of working a job was priceless. In fact, I have no doubt in my mind that some of the skills I learned at that job, I still use today.
Davenport Mayor Klipsch announced today a new way for teens to find jobs. According to WQAD.com, he's teaming up with Iowa Works to bring a job fair to the River Center April 13th, to provide teens a way to get the interview and hiring experience they need to land a successful job.
The job fair will go on from 3-6 p.m. and the teens looking for jobs should dress accordingly and be ready to fill out applications. I think this is a great way for teens to have a bigger choice about where they work. Once they know someplace is hiring and there, ready to talk with them, that could open up a bigger realm of possibilities.
