The Most Dangerous Intersection In The State Of Iowa

Anytime you get behind the wheel of the car, you're putting your life, and other lives at risk. Even if you're only driving 20 mph through a residential neighborhood, accidents can happen, and people do get hurt. According to HG Legal Resources, there have been over 300 traffic fatalities per year in Iowa for almost a century.

You never know when an accident can happen and most accidents happen in the blink of an eye. I don't say that to sound like Mr. Driver's Ed but safe driving is something everyone who operates a car should practice, every time they operate a vehicle.

Your chance of getting in a car accident can increase for a variety of reasons. If you drive more frequently than the average person, if you live in an area where there are more cars or more traffic, if drive more recklessly than the average person, and if you drive under the influence, can all obviously increase your chances of being in an accident. If you frequently drive at this Iowa intersection, you should use more caution than normal.

According to HG Legal Resources and The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the most dangerous intersection in Iowa is US Highway 20 and Interstate 380 in Waterloo.

If you've driven through this area, you know it can be an absolute mess. Drivers not signaling when they are going to merge and other drivers not realizing one of the lanes is a turning lane, so if they don't move over, they're going to have to turn at a certain point. After realizing this, they panic and just swerve into traffic.

You've likely seen many cars at this intersection on the side of the road after an accident. I've personally seen multiple semi-trucks in the ditch at this intersection. I swear drivers in this area just cross their fingers and hope for the best when deciding where to go and which lane they want to be in.

They never seem to have a plan, are always in some giant hurry, and never want to slow down to let someone move over or speed up and let them merge behind their car. It's always an adventure at the Avenue of the Saints. Thus, we have the most dangerous intersection in Iowa. This intersection has seen plenty of accidents and fatalities so it's important to remember to use caution when driving in this area.

Is this really the worst?

To be fair, HG Legal makes an odd "honorable mention" in their story. They claim that another awful intersection in Iowa occurs at Highway 20 and Interstate 35 in Coralville... as anyone who's spent 10 minutes in the Corridor knows, there's no such intersection. Hm.
