The Most Popular Comfort Food In Iowa Might Surprise You
Winter is drawing nigh and that means it's Netflix and comfort food season.
Since we don't have to worry about a good summer bod (if we ever did) anymore, we eat more warm, flavorful, comfy meals this time of the year as we huddle inside from the cold.
E-conolight looked at the most popular comfort foods in every state and I have to say Iowa's was a surprise.
In most of the country, the favorite comfort foods are savory dishes. Grilled cheese, fried chicken, chicken and waffles (one of my personal loves), chili, mashed potatoes, you get the point. But Iowa apparently prefers the sweet side of life.
Here's a look at how many states are looking for traditional comfort food dishes.
Honestly, that list just makes me hungry. To come up with each state's favorite comfort food, E-conolight looked at the dishes that are most commonly labeled as "comfort foods". Then they turned to Google Trends to see how much of each dish each of the states are searching for, based on searches in 2020. It looked at each state's favorite savory and sweet dish.
Iowa Is On The Sweet Side
Iowa's favorite dish is a sweet, generally breakfast one. It's so yummy, I can't blame you for the googles.
Iowa loves...
Monkey bread! Iowa's favorite comfort food is monkey bread. Which is perfect this time of year, especially. Warm, gooey, sticky carb-y goodness. Here's what each of the states love:
But Wait, What About The Rest Of The Meal?
Iowa is one of the few states that likes sweet stuff as our main comfort food. Even though monkey bread ranks top for Iowans, the study also looked at each state's favorite main dish and side dish.
Iowa's favorite main dish is tater tot casserole. (Is that a main? Or a side? Do we care?)
Iowa's favorite side dish is green bean casserole. (Fair, it's always a staple.)
My home state of Arkansas is pretty much my diet in the month of November: chicken and dumplings, gravy for the side, and pecan pie for dessert.
