It's summertime, so there's no time like the present to get out of the house and explore. But if you can't afford a vacation, why not hit up some of the great places in your own backyard? We checked out Trip Advisor for ideas on places to check out this summer. They have lists for each of the Quad Cities, but unsurprisingly, Davenport's list was the longest. They listed 34 things in all, but we decided to focus on the top 10.

Each of the lists are generated by Trip Advisor user reviews, but we tend to agree with a lot of the choices. Some are more obvious (Figge and the Freight House), but others could be places you've never thought to visit before (Chocolate Manor and the German Heritage Museum). And of course, it's not possible to visit the Festival of Trees right now, but you can add it to your list of things to do this winter.

We will be highlighting Trip Advisor's top things to do in each one of the Quad Cities over the next week, beginning with Davenport. See the rest of Davenport's list here.

The 10 Ten Things to do in Davenport

1. Figge Art Museum

A Top Review: "The Oz items on display are on loan from Willard Carroll from Maine and this will be the only place to see them outside of Maine. There are books and posters and wallpaper and games and the highlight of this exhibit-the costume of the Lollipop Guild munchkin from the 1939 movie. The museum is free all summer so visit often." -Susan H

2. Vander Veer Botanical Park

A Top Review: Checked out this park, and was pleasantly surprised at the plantings, which were nice and diverse.... from Milkweed plants, to exotic tropical plants. Had walking, ponds, fountain, plenty of shade, etc. Nice mix of tranquility and kids programs. -Larry P.

3. The Putnam Museum and Science Center

A Top Review: "We visited here mainly for the King Tut exhibit, and before we knew it 4 hours had gone by and we were still exploring this museum. It is a history and science museum all in one, with history exhibits and hands on science exhibits. It also has an Imax theater which we didn't partake in on this trip but looked neat. The price was $19 for the general admission and Tut exhibit combined, or just general admission is $8. This is a great bargain for all there is to see and do here." -Faithpark02

4. Chocolate Manor

A Top Comment: "Delicious homemade chocolates, coffee, ice cream. Everything I have ever purchased from here is beyond delicious!!! It is a good thing I don't live closer!!" -Christine U.

5. Village of East Davenport

A Top Comment: "This is a quaint Village type atmosphere. Many nice independently-owned businesses with a wide variety of products that they offer. Also some good restaurants and bars. Nightlife in this area is diverse and fun and safe."- Kim S.

6. Freight House Farmer's Market

A Top Comment: "Here is a place to visit for a number of reasons, You can buy healthy food at a reasonable price. You can enjoy a walk through many booths with many items to purchase if you like, items such as vegetables, art items, clothing and much more. It is even a place to meet people from different areas. Just a good place to visit with friends and family." - Fred T.

7. Great River Brewery

A Top Comment: "They have a great outdoor patio for drinks. Great beer! We will go again! Maybe ride bikes there. Easy parking." -carguy58

8. German Heritage Center

A Top Comment: "We stopped by the German American Heritage Center one Sunday afternoon and were amazed by the quality of this facility. The building has been immaculately restored and the exhibits are not only of the highest quality, but educational as well. The staff was professional and helpful. A visit to the GAHC should be on everyone's list. They will not be disappointed." -laurapD8004XN

9. Davenport Skybridge

A Top Comment: "What a great little concept, a sky bridge to see the views of the Mississippi River...but...the outside balcony is locked so you can only view through the glass. The walk or bike ride on the trail below is fantastic, so this is worth a stop." -Peg C.

10. Festival of Trees

A Top Comment: "Located inside the beautiful River Center hall in downtown Davenport, Ia. City ramp adjacent or some 2-hr street parking. A must see QC Arts charity event each year. Once inside, plenty of room to take your time and walk around and enjoy the numerous Christmas displays that will take your breath away. A visitor can also bid on and/or buy Christmas trees, wreaths, and other holiday related items-pick up of purchased/winning bid items is on the last Sunday after the event closes for the season. Creative gingerbread/candy room will amaze you. Restrooms available and an on site gift shop as well. After enjoying the attractions, most visitors walk out truly in the Christmas spirit. Handicapped accessible and seating available to watch the stage shows. Worth the trip from anywhere." -Jill J
