Before you move somewhere, you want to make sure the town you are moving to is safe. That's like the first thing you check. Now, safety can be somewhat subjective like when you ask your realtor, "Is this a safe neighborhood?" My neighborhood is safe but within the first 3 months of us moving there, someone got murdered which was out of the blue for my neck of the woods.

If you're moving to Illinois and safety is your top priority, plan to move to a city where there isn't much going on. It's a small city but it has been deemed the safest city in Illinois by Road Snacks.

Finding Illinois' Safest Cities

When you can find the data like Road Snacks can, it's easy to find out which cities are the safest and which ones aren't.

"We've sifted through FBI crime data, examining 310 cities with populations exceeding 5,000, to compile a comprehensive list of the safest places in Illinois for 2024."

Illinois ranks as the 24th safest state in the nation. They also looked at data points including:

  • Population
  • Violent Crimes Per 100k
  • Property Crimes Per 100k
  • Murders
  • Murders Per 100k

They also looked at towns with populations over 5,000 and the safest city is doubled that.

The Number One Safest City In Illinois

1. Campton Hills

Campton Hills is another Chicago suburb but it's pretty much on the far west edge of the Chicagoland area. With a population just over 10,000, Campton Hills has no murders or murders per 100k. It's insanely safe and you learn more about it on their website.

"Campton Hills' gold star qualities like the non-existent number of crimes per 100,000 residents speaks volumes. With a little over 11,000 residents, the superb quality of life in this little village in Kane County is the reason that it basically maintained its spot from last year. Campton Hills is the kind of place where packages from Amazon won't get stolen from your front porch when you're not home."
