Residents in Colona, Illinois are dealing with an AT&T outage and it could last for a while.

After severe weather moved through, a massive AT&T outage hit Colona and it's causing some problems. On Wednesday, the Colona Police Department posted on their Facebook page that they received a lot of reports of AT&T phone customers being without service.

It turns out that it is a big outage, taking possibly a month to fix. AT&T gave the forecasted fix date for it as February 2nd.

AT&T told WQAD that they were able to restore service to some landline phones after the severe weather hit it. But not everyone has landlines anymore and the concern now is for the senior citizens.

The Colona Police Department had 12 911-only phones as of Wednesday morning. They're available on an urgent need only basis, for senior citizens who don't have cellphones and high-risk individuals who are without phone service.

Police are also issuing welfare checks as needed and are asking residents to check on seniors who may not have phone access in case of an emergency.

If you don't have service, you are advised to borrow a friend's phone or if you need an emergency phone, reach out to the Colona Police Department. They're at 215 1st St. and can be reached at 309-792-1511.

And remember: all wireless phones, even without a carrier, can call 911. So if you have old cellphones in the drawers that you haven't seen in years, those could still help you in an emergency.
