Alright, Quad Cities. We have good news and bad news when it comes to the weather. The good news: No new snow is coming. The bad news: extremely cold temperatures and wind gusts are expected tonight into Wednesday.

Tuesday morning, January 4th, 2022, the National Weather Service, the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities, and the National Weather Service of Des Moines (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Eastern Iowa and the majority of Iowa, parts of Western and Northwestern Illinois, and extreme Northeastern parts of Missouri.

NWS officials say the Winter Weather Advisory has been issued because blowing snow is expected Tuesday night and Wednesday due to winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially in rural areas. This may cause roads to become snow-covered again and make travel difficult, affecting Wednesday's morning and evening commutes.

Strong winds will also make driving difficult for high-profile vehicles and could blow around unsecured items like furniture, decorations, etc.

Officials from the National Weather Service say that bitterly cold wind chills as low as -20° could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

The National Weather Service of Des Moines is predicting the Quad Cities will see wind chill values reach down -10° Wednesday morning, but stronger wind gusts could push those apparent temperatures even colder.
