It's a lot of fun to hunt for plastic eggs during the Easter season. While humans typically do egg hunting, man's best friend wants in on the fun too. Your four-legged love has a chance to do that this weekend.

For the first time ever, a doggie egg hunt event is coming to Eastern Iowa. The event not only has eggs for dogs to look for with treats inside but vendors and other services will be offered.

The great news is that the event is free to attend. You don't even need to register for it. Get ready for the first-ever Doggie Egg Hunt in Davenport this weekend.

Local pet-related businesses will be showcasing their goods and services (and offering a few freebies and coupons) for pets and owners alike. Attendees will enjoy plenty of activities including pet grooming, professional photos, toy crafts making, food (including some dog-friendly snacks), and drinks before or after the Doggie Egg Hunt. In addition, free microchipping will be offered by the Humane Society of Scott County and Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Informational booths, vendors, and animal rescue organizations will be on hand also to give away free goodies as well as encourage better health and the well-being of our pup population. And families can get a picture with the Easter Bunny.

“Staff have talked about hosting a dog event for a while so we are excited to be hosting this event through this wonderful collaboration with the Humane Society of Scott County," said Amanda Randerson, Davenport Parks and Recreation Events Supervisor. “It is exciting for our community to be able to come out and participate in an event that is specifically for our furry members of the family.”

The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Small, Slow, Seniors (Puppies and Teenagers) Hunt begins at 10:15 a.m. followed by Big, Bouncy, Babies (Teenagers and Active Seniors) hunt which starts at 12 p.m. Don’t forget to catch a photo op with the Easter Bunny.

Event Rules:

  • All dogs must be well-controlled on no longer than a 6ft leash. No retractable leashes, please.
  • All dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations.
  • Bring your own basket to collect the treats your dog finds.
  • Keep a safe distance between dogs while seeking treats to avoid a possible fight over treats.
  • Remember this is a fun activity for you and your dog, NOT a competition!
  • Cats are welcome to attend the microchipping clinic, but must be in a carrier.
  • Donations are encouraged for the Humane Society of Scott County to help the lost and homeless pets of our community.

A rain date is scheduled for the day after, Sunday, March 24th, if needed. More details can be found here.
