It's National Puppy Day and you may be toying with what to name your new pet.

It can be a tough decision to figure out what name to give your new furbaby. When I got my cat Milo it took me two months to finally land on a name for him. He was a kitten at the time and a holy terror to raise so that took up my energy but he's orange, so he got his name from "The Adventures of Milo and Otis", for you '80s and 90's kids that remember that show. Whatever you name an animal reflects not only the pet's personality but yours too.

You can always choose something that reflects what you love, like something you enjoy or a name from your fave TV show. But if you're an Iowan, you might want your little furkid's name to reflect where you got it or where you lived when you got it, and make it something unique about Iowa, whether it's someone, someplace, or some cultural staple we all know and love. Luckily for us, there are several cute things in the state that can make for good pet names.

So you don't have to do laborious research for this (you're welcome), we came up with a list of 15 clever Iowa-inspired pet names that don't suck so you can go ahead and focus on the logistics of adopting a dog or a cat.
