It's a good time to take the Christmas tree down.

As much as I love Christmas, I prefer to take the decorations down quickly since the holiday has passed. This weird gap between Christmas and New Year's gives us time to do that. If you had the pleasure (or pain, depending on how you see it) of having a live Christmas tree this year, you can make it very useful. If you don't want to get crafty, go with this first option.

Put It Outside With The Garbage

Keep an eye out on your city's social media to see when their Christmas tree collection might be. Once you get rid of all the decorations, you can also put it in your backyard to use as lining for flowerbeds.

We love live Christmas trees because of the smell. Before you dispose of it, pick off a few of the needles, put them in a small fabric bag, and you have yourself a fragrant sachet that can last for awhile.

Turn It Into Mulch

Get ready to garden in 2025. Multiple places will put a live Christmas tree through a wood chipper for you to turn it into mulch.

Live Christmas trees make a great fish habitat. Some zoos and wildlife agencies accept live trees to use in lakes and rivers. Reach out to your local wildlife agency and see if they can take your live Christmas tree. Of course, make sure you take all of the decorations off of it first.

It can be sad to take down Christmas decorations but it's a little encouraging when the tree goes towards something useful.
