A popular haunted house in Rock Island won't be coming back.

Shock House, which has a home at 2621 4th Street in Rock Island, has announced that they have "taken it's final breath".

The haunted house has been operating for 14 Halloween seasons. They have had both actor and actor-free kids' night haunts. They've been open every Friday from about late September-right after Halloween, and the last 3 Sundays before Halloween.

According to the Facebook post from Shock House, they were the only haunted house in Illinois that still did a "complete temporary build" of the haunted house every fall season.

Shock House won 5 awards from Haunted Illinois: 2022 Voters Choice Top 10 Haunted House, 2022 Voters Choice Top 10 Halloween Event, 2021 Voters Choice Top 10 Haunted House, 2020 Voters Choice Top 10 Haunted House, and 2019 Voters Choice Top 10 Halloween Event.

The post from Shock House said that it's a combination of things that led to Shock House's closure: a lot of state regulations on haunted houses now, finding dedicated actors and volunteers, building the attraction from scratch every year then running it and then taking it down.

The Shock House will not be back for the 2026 Halloween season.

They thank their volunteers, visitors, and everyone who helped out or enjoyed the Shock House haunt. The haunt experience was unique because it always changed up and it was never the same. As the post put it: "Shock House was a love-hate hobby, but it was also a tribute to someone who helped inspire it from the very beginning."

The post encourages Shock House fans to visit Terror at Skellington Manor.
