It always makes breaks my heart to see animals in need of homes on social media. It's even sadder when the animal is a senior, since puppies and kittens are typically the most desired pets. If you or someone you know is interested in adopting a shelter animal, please consider one of these sweet senior dogs. They may be advanced in age, but they no doubt still have plenty of love left to give to that special person or family.

Please note: These are animals currently listed on Petfinder as of when this article was published. However, there is a possibility they will no longer be up for adoption by the time you click on their info. We encourage animal adoption, so keep checking out Petfinder if you are interested in adding any type of pet to your family.

Dusty is a German Shepard available through K9 Kindness Rescue. Here's a description of him from them: My name is Dusty, and you will have to meet me to know that 11 is the new 7 in dog years! (If you're over 40, you'll get that one!) I'm mostly a German Shepherd Dog, but my Husky side keeps me feeling young! I'm also quite the conversationalist. I was a great senior companion, but my senior just ran out of energy for me. I'm sure it was hard for her to let me go, but I still love being a snuggle buddy, especially during a thunderstorm! If it was not for my GSD pride, I might be able to admit I am a big baby! I have recently moved in with two cats, and even though I tried to be a gentleman and introduce myself a few times, they did not like me. I still think we could be friends, but right now I ignore them.

Lexi is a Spaniel and Beagle Mix available for adoption through K9 Kindness Rescue. Here is their description of her: Lexie is a sweet senior dog looking for a loving home to call her own. She is great with kids and even cats but would prefer to be the only dog in the house to soak up all your love and affection. She does very good in a yard but also enjoys going on walks and is great at listening as she comes when called. She is also housebroken. Lexie is a loving dog who would make a wonderful companion for anyone.

Gabby is a Lab mix available through K9 Kindness Rescue. Here is their description of her: Gabby is a very sweet, quiet older Labrador Retriever mix. She still has plenty of energy, and no ongoing health problems. She is good with dogs and cats, and older, calm children. Gabby is timid with strangers at first and it takes her awhile to warm up to people when she first meets them. After she knows you, she becomes very attached and would love, if allowed, to cuddle in bed at night. Her most favorite thing is to be close to her person or family!

Kringle is a Jack Russel Terrier mix available through K9 Kindness Rescue. Here's what they have to say about him: My name is Kringle. I'm a Jack Russell terrier mix. My foster Mom says it makes me the perfect guard dog because I'm a medium dog with a big bark. I give her a single warning when someone is right outside, but as soon as she says it's okay, I lay back down. I love people, all people; especially when they give me belly rubs or play ball with me. I will walk right up to you and flop over and wait to be rubbed. I get along with the dogs and people I have met here, including the neighbor dogs and children. I love love love toys so much so that I end up playing with them too hard, so I need some sturdy toys or just someone playing with me when I'm playing. Oh, and I will do almost anything for attention, or a treat, especially a treat. I will sit, come, or lay down for you and I'm working on waiting. My favorite thing to do is pick a comfy spot and watch the birds out the window.
